The story behind the name...

Since the beginning, we have struggled naming picci. Naming companies is hard. Finding a name that’s not already in use, has a great url available, hasn’t been used by some random on Twitter or Facebook can suck the will to live.

So after months of using Piicup as a working name and hearing ‘when will Pee Cup be ready’ Andy cracked the shits and demanded we come up with a name by Friday, just four days away. To up the ante a bit, Kirstin threw down that if we couldn’t find a good name by Friday we would call the app Kev…

Last week was hectic. Just a month from our pre-release launch everyone is head down working, fueled by Red Bull, stress and Modas… Coming up with a name was just not high on most of our agendas and to be really honest, I think most of us forget to even think about it.

Thankfully we have a professional in the office, Elise, our Head of Product Marketing and she had it all under control. Within minutes, she had taken us from "match" in english to match in Finnish (ottelu), Zulu (umentshisi) and a dozen other languages, until we got to Japanese, where it’s "ichi".

We were all super keen to keep our logo which meant needing to insert a P at the start of ichi and before you knew it, we had removed the h, added a c and made it all the way to picci, which in hindsight seems so bloody obvious for us Aussies, you know, since the app is all about pics and in 'Stralia we love to say, 'lets take a picci!"

There was much highfiving and many audible sighs of relief and now folks, if you don’t like it or pronounce the name wrong, we don’t care. We’re all in and we’re got the url to prove it, picci.me

P.S. Don’t forget to pre-register for early access to Picci...
